Pet Name: luuar
The little red wocky shivered and curled tightly in a ball.
Around him, he could hear sounds of sadness – Neopets of every species, mourning for their lost families. Sobbing, sighing, sleeping time away.
His fur was unkempt; his stomach hardly fed.
For over six years, the wocky had waited in the Neopian Pound. Day in, day out, he had been hoping to be adopted. Every day, he stretched his paws out of his cell and put on his best smile, trying to get someone to notice him. His smile became dull as he lost hope over time.
“luuar,” he reminded himself. “That’s my name.”
One winter morning, luuar’s life was about to be changed forever.
“Come on, boy,” the pound keeper said cheerfully. “It’s your lucky day.”
Confused, luuar sat up and tilted his head. “Where are we going?”
“You’ve been chosen. You get your second chance. I hope you’re going to be a good boy.”
luuar stood up and peered out down the walkway. His ears pricked up when he saw fellow wockies watching him through the glass door at the end of the room.
“Those are your new siblings – you’re going to fit right in!”
luuar’s heart raced as he made his way nervously towards the door. The pound keeper opened the door and luuar stepped through.
“Hiiiiiiii!” exclaimed the faerie wocky. “I’m Malipat, and the transparent wocky is ms_9!”
luuar stuttered, “H-hi… I’m luuar…”
“luuar! Cool name. Well, come on, I have so much to show you,” Malipat said.
luuar took a deep breath and followed the wockies out of the pound. He glanced behind him, nerves catching up to him again. He had spent so long in that one cell, could he really be free after all this time?!
The three wockies trekked on and eventually stopped at Kiko Lake for lunch. luuar remembered this place from years ago. It hadn’t changed one bit!
ms_9 pounced on luuar. Startled, he nipped her ear.
“Ouch! Why’d you do that?!” she cried.
luuar looked down. “I’m sorry. I was bullied in the pound because of my small size… I thought you were attacking me!” He glanced up at her, trying to gauge whether she had forgiven him.
He felt a warm lick on his cheek. “Don’t worry! You’ll get used to us!” She giggled and pulled out a frisbee. “Let’s play!”
So luuar, the little red wocky from the pound, played with his two new wocky sisters.
Later that evening, after a big dinner, luuar laid down beside the fireplace. As he was finally relaxing and closed his eyes, he felt a gentle tap on his shoulder.
“Hey, luuar. It’s me, Malipat,” she said quietly.
He looked up and grinned. “Hi.”
She placed a book down in front of him and opened it to a random page. Inside the book was information about wockies – pictures and descriptions of all the different colours wockies could be.
“Wow,” he said, as he flicked through the pages. He had never seen some of these wockies before!
“Yep!” she said, laying down nearby him. “You’re going to need to choose which colour you’d like to be! I was a yellow wocky before I was adopted.”
luuar looked at her with disbelief. “I can choose my new colour?!”
“Any colour you want! And then, when you’re ready, you’ll probably get to go fishing and read books too! I’ve read over one hundred books.” She yawned. “Goodnight, luuar. I’m so glad you’re my new brother!”
“Goodnight,” luuar said as he shyly licked her cheek.
He took the book and curled up once more beside the fire. He flicked through the book and let the colour choices seep into his dreams…
luuar turns 10 years old on the 3rd of July! He chose to become a Darigan wocky. For luuar’s birthday, he will get to do his favourite thing – read books and train!
