Smile's Tips On Reselling!

So, you want to be a reseller? Read these tips and find out how you can make a huge profit in just a few days!.

Terms To Remember
Unbuyable- An item that can't be bought on the shop wizard.

Buyable- An items that can be bought on the shop wizard

HTS- Hard To Sell. Some items are harder to sell than others

ETS- Easy To Sell

TP- Trading Post

AUTO- You'll see this in the wishlist of some trades. This means the person will automatically accept if you offer the price they are asking. An example would be. "100k=AUTO". This means an offer of 100,000nps will be accepted automatically.

Haggle-Trying to get a bargain on an item. "argue" with the seller/buyer on the price until you come to an agreement. For example:

Seller: 120k
Buyer: 100k?
Seller: 110k?
Buyer: Deal!

K-k" stands for thousand. For example;

  • 10k= 10,000 neopoints
  • 100k= 100,000 neopoints
  • 200k= 200,000 neopoints

So what IS reselling anyway?
Well basically, reselling is just like restocking. You buy items for less than what they are worth and then sell them for more, making a pretty good profit. The only difference is that you are buying items from other people on the site, and not from the main shops around neopia.

Getting Started...

Where do I start?
Before you can start reselling, you need to have some neopoints. I'd suggest having atleast 100,000 nps with you. This way, you try getting unbuyables for 90k and less. If you don't have 100k, then check out Smile's Neopoint Making Tips for ways to make neopoints easily. Now, some good items to resell are paint brushes. To do this, I reccommend having atleast 200k ;)

I have 200k! Now what?
Great! Now that you have 200k, you can start reselling. When reselling, you have to find people who are selling their items for cheaper than TP price. Since you have 200k, you should look for ETS items, so that you don't waste all of your neopoints on a item that is HTS. Go to theTrading Board and find paint brushes. Paint brushes are the best item to resell. There are a few paint brushes that sell for 170k and less, but you can easily haggle to get it for 150k. If you can get a paint brush for cheap, then you are well on your way to reselling. Before we go any further, here is a list of paint brushes you can try to get for 150k+.

  • Glowing Paint Brush
    Worth: 150k-160k
    Offer: 115k-130kk

  • Split Paint Brush
    Worth: 150k-160k
    Offer: 115k-130k

  • Scritchy Sketchy Paint Brush
    Worth: 200k-220k
    Offer: 170k-180k

  • Christmas Paint Brush
    Worth: 190k-200k
    Offer: 160k-170k

  • Silver Paint Brush
    Worth: 170k-200k
    Offer: 150k

All of these paint brushes can be sold for their regular price within a few hours. When you put it in trades make sure you say how much you want for the paint brush. People will most likely offer what it's worth when they can get a fast reply. So make sure you say **ONLINE NOW** in your wishlist.

    Something To Remember...
A very important thing to remember when offering on an item is to be firm with the person you are dealing with. If you are going to offer 120k on a glowing paint brush, something you shouldn't say is. "Is 120k enough?". This shows that you are unsure of the price. The seller can easily say, "no, it's not enough". What you should say is, "120k is the highest i'll offer". This way, the seller knows that you know what you're doing. If you can get the glowing paint brush for 90k, can you easily sell it for 110k and make a pretty good profit.

Moving On To More Expensive Items...

I made over 300k! Now what?
Now that you have over 300k, you can start going for more expensive paint brushes, and even cheap HTS. You have to know which items to get and which not to get. So here is a list of items that are good for you to buy, if discounted.

    1. Petpets- Buy these if they are 10k discounted. They are pretty ETS in your shop. If the petpet is worth 105k-120k, try haggling to 85k or so, then sell it for 99,999nps in your shop :)

    2. Painted Petpets- These are VERY HTS. A good reseller will be able to sell these and make atleast 10k profit. Only buy a painted petpet if you can get an unbuyable one for buyable. If the petpet is worth 110k†, then see if you can haggle to 75k-80k then sell it in your shop for 99,999nps.

    3. TCG's- Never buy TCG's! Even if the person says it's worth 800k and they will sell for 200k. Chances are you will end up selling for buyable (if you are lucky) and you'll lose nps instead of gaining them.

    4. Plushies- Usually, the only people who buy plushies are those who collect them. Again, try getting buyable unbuyable plushies. Use the same technique used when buying petpets. Don't spend over 200k on a plushie.

    5. Gourmet Foods- I don't like buying gourmet foods, but there are a lot of resellers who do. I'd recommend buying gourmet's only if it is discounted by 50k†

    Reselling Paint Brushes
I find paint brushes are the easiest items to resell. With a bit of patience, you can sell a paint brush for more than it's worth. Below you will find a list of paint brushes, their cost, and what you should offer on it in order to make a profit..

NOTE: The prices of paint brushes may be different in the future when avatars are released and such. Be sure to check the trading post and shop wizard when buying items :)--- (LAST UPDATE: 10/16/06)

    Morphing Potions...

How do I know which potions to buy?
It is important that you check the prices of morphing potions when trying to resell them. Just use your common sense to figure out if you are getting a good deal. First of all, I wouldn't recommend buying the basic coloured morphing potions. If someone was selling a blue acara morphing potion for 100k less than the wiz, it's probably because they can't sell it for any higher. If you think about it, why would someone PAY for a pet that they could just create for free? Most neopets aren't limited edition. To find out which ones are limited edition, go to
    Create A Pet.

With the coloured morphing potions, you still have to be careful when looking for a good deal. For example, a fire grarrl morphing potion cost much less than buying a fire paint brush. You have to check the trading post for prices to make sure that you are getting a fair trade, and don't forget to haggle on these prices as well.

When buying painted morphing potions, you want to make sure that the morphing potion doesn't cost more than the colour of the paint brush. If it costs more, it will probably be more HTS. People want the lowest prices, and if they know they can get a better price, they will go for it. This is why we ALWAYS check the trading post/shop wizard when buying items.

    Rarity...

    What is "rarity
It is important to know the rarity of an item you are buying, especially when the price is high and there aren't many on the TP. The rarity tells you how rare an item is. This helps you determine how often the item is restocked in the main shops. The higher the rarity, the more rare it is. You can find out the rarity of an item by looking it up on the search engine. If the rarity is over 99, that means the item can't be restocked and it may have been given out as a advent calendar prize, or a prize that no one else can get.

    What about the "new" items?!
Some items haven't been released yet or don't have a name, but are still restocked in main shops. These items are known as "new". I wouldn't buy one of these items to resell until there is a set price on the TP for it.

    Selling Items...

    Argh, my items won't sell!
Now, you can't just leave an item in your trades and expect people to offer what you want. Go to the trading post and make a board about your item! You will most likely get a whole bunch of reseller offers, but don't accept low prices. Here are some tips on selling your items

One way to sell your items is to look for people with galleries that relates to the item you are selling. Check their gallery and see if they are missing it, or if the item is listed on their wishlist. Collectors are more than happy to buy an item for their gallery, especially if it's discounted, even by 5k or so. Neomail three or four collectors and see which one offers the best amount of neopoints. :)
