7/3/05: 06/30/2005 : 110 views! Wow, thanks for all the support! And I'm getting lots of neomails supporting the cause! You guys are awesome! Oh, and while I was on vacation, I rode this beautiful Arabian gelding that was a saved PMU foal. You see, there is a chemical in a pregnant mare's urine that is used in a women's drug. There are farms for the sole purpose to collect the urine. Unfortunatley, many of the foals go to slaughter. Now, there are many rescue groups trying to find these foals homes. I rode Meman, who was one of those foals saved from slaughter, and was excellent! He was such a sweet horse, and a total joy to ride!

Horse Slaughter...Why?

Many children go through a "horse phase" as they grow up. Some stick with it, and others get too caught up with being a "teen" Some of those kids get a horse or pony wnen they are younger, then the horse is forced to be sold. What happens to the poor equine? Too often, the childhood pony is sold at an auction, to 'killer buyers', or slaughter workers. These once faithful compainions are reduced to dog food, or someone's dinner. This is also an all-too-common practice with racehorses. If the racehorse isn't good enough, it may go to auction and be bought by 'killer buyers'. I don't understand this, since most ex-racers can become awesome english horses. Also, BLM mustangs often go to slaughter houses. Do you think we should slaughter our living legends?

Slaughterhouses don't really give their horses a peaceful last moments. They are stuffed in a trailer, taken to a cramped stall, and...slaughtered. I cannot go into how they are killed for it isn't Neopets appropriate, but I will tell you it isn't pain-free. Many slaughter-bound horses could've been top-class jumpers, a speedy barrel-racer, or even just a loving companion. Every horse can do something, even if it is as little as keep the goat company.

Our Awards!

How can I help? Want to help speard the word? Tell people to visit Felitha's petpage, or link to my site. Put some of the banners I got from freequine in your lookup or shop or wherever. If you would like to help in real life, then adopt an ex-racer, write a letter to the slaughterhouses and your local government about it, join or start 'end horse slaughter' clubs. If you are selling a horse, please oh, please do not take it to an auction. You don't know where your horse may end up. Find a responsible oiwner who gets along with your horse. Another thing you can do is tell the buyer if they don't want the horse anymore, to give it back to you. That way you know your horse is safe!
