Splash's Page and Battledome Introduction |
|||
|
Hi there, guest! I'm Splash, the handsome skunk flotsam. I have a great owner and two pretty nice sisters and a brother. We live on Mystery Island, right on the shores of Lake Okabena, where we each have a two-room cottage. On Friday nights everyone comes over to my place for pizza because I'm the pizza chef in the family. |

A long time ago I went to the lab ray for 8 months. That was pretty weird! The third time I was turned invisible we decided that was enough, so I drank a morphing potion that my owner had stashed away and I turned back into my handsome self.:) I used to be a battler, but I don't do that much any more. I'd rather relax in my Retired Warrior's Garden.
Sometimes new pets ask me "What's the battledome like?". So my owner and I wrote this introduction to the battledome. It stars my cousin, zippy_the_fierce. He's quite a ham! I hope you like it. |

The first thing you need to know about the Battledome is that you don't need to know about the Battledome. You can lead a full and happy Neopian life without paying the least bit of attention to the Battledome. Over half the owners in Neopia never take their pets to the Battledome. If you decide to ignore it, you'll be in good company.:) But how can I decide if I want to do it or not you say? That's what this page is for, to show you what the Battledome is about. It's not a strategy guide. We won't be discussing the merits of various weapons. It's just to give you a glimpse inside the Battledome and what you'll be getting into if you decide to have a battling pet. What is it? - The Battledome is an area of Neopets where your pet can battle the pets of other players or challengers created by Neopets. The wars which occasionally take place in Neopia are conducted in the Battledome. The game Defenders of Neopia also takes place there. How much does it cost? - There is no entrance fee for a battle, but you must buy and equip your pet with some weapons before it enters the Battledome. Weapons run from under 100NP to millions of NP. To be successful in the Battledome you will also have to raise your pet's statistics and gain abilities for it. Most methods of doing these things cost varying amounts of neopoints. What do I get out of it? - You don't get neopoints, prizes, or trophies for regular battles. The Defenders of Neopia game awards a trophy (which changes at each level). In Neopian wars, players who gain a certain amount of points win some neopoints and prizes, but unless you are among the top point winners they will not be substantial. In the last war most players got 2000NP and a T-shirt. All participants in the war who won at least one battle got a shield which appears in their user lookup. How does it work? - Click here and zippy_the_fierce will demonstrate for you how the Battledome works. If you decide that the Battledome is for you and your pet, you wil find some basic information on how to prepare for it here. If you decide that the Battledome is NOT for you, this section will tell you how it may still affect your Neopian life, for the good. |
First my owner and I went shopping and bought a Large Metal Shield, a Sticky Snowball, and a Spectre Battlecard. I think it's very funny that snowballs and cards are weapons, don't you? Then my owner equipped me with these weapons by clicking on them and selecting the option "Equip zippy_the_fierce". She made sure I wasn't hungry and that I had all my health points and then I was ready to go to the Battledome. I don't want to fight with other pets, so we went to the 1 Player Battledome. When we got there we saw a list of the challengers that I could fight. ![]() My owner selected me from the drop down menu and challenged the Chia Clown by clicking on his name. Then we were really inside the Battledome! ![]() Before making the first move in the battle, we had to select two weapons by clicking on them. You can tell which ones we selected because their names are in bold type. ![]() We also had to select an ability from the drop down menu. Of course we selected Fierce Attack. ![]() Then we typed a message to our opponent. You don't have to do this, but I like to be friendly. :) ![]() Now I was ready for my first move. My owner clicked on the Go! button, and... ![]() Wow!! Look!! I defeated the Chia Clown in one move!! You can see that the Chia Clown did 3 points of damage to me, but I did 19 points of damage to him, so all his health points were wiped out and I won! Here I am in my victory picture. It's too bad I don't get to keep that nice looking trophy. :( ![]() I hope my demonstration has given you an idea of what the battledome is like. I'm very happy that my battle had a happy ending (for me) and I hope if you decide to let your pet battle that it will have happy endings, too. :) |

Preparing for Battledome | ![]() |
|
To prepare your pet for the Battledome there are three things you must do: raise its statistics, acquire abilities for it, and purchase some weapons. The most common way to increase your pet's statistics is to take courses at the Training School at Mystery Island or the Academy at Krawk Island. Tuition at the Training School is paid with codestones, at the Academy with Dubloons. The number of codestones or dubloons depends on the Level of your pet. Until your pet reaches Level 20 it is less expensive to train it at the Academy. Codestones can be found in user shops, auctions, and the trading post. They also sometimes appear in random events and as prizes at the Tombola and Coltzan's Shrine. Dubloons can be found in user shops, auctions, and the trading post. They also sometimes appear as prizes at Coltzan's Shrine and the Buried Treasure game. There are other ways to increase your pet's statistics. One free way is to visit Coltzan's Shrine in the Lost Desert every day. It doesn't give statistics every time, but quite often. The random faerie quests (except for the Earth Faerie) usually increase one of your pet's statistics. Some games occasionally give random statistics. A rather expensive way to increase statistics is to feed your pet certain types of neggs. Another quite expensive way to increase your pet's statistics (although if you're going to get into battling big time it may be cheaper in the long run) is to assemble the nine pieces of the Secret Laboratory Map to gain once-a-day access to the secret lab. The secret lab will raise or lower your pet's statistics at random, but in the long run they will increase. The lab may also change your pet's color, species or gender, or it may do nothing at all. At this time it will cost around 450,000NP to get all the map pieces. The statistics that matter in the battledome are health points (endurance), strength, and defense. Level is important in that it determines how far you can train in the other statistics. Move (agility) and intelligence are of no importance in the Battledome at this time. Your pet receives abilities from bottled faeries (Earth, Water, Air, Light, Dark, and Fire). Each faerie has a number of abilties that it grants. Your pet must be at a certain Level to receive each ability and they are granted in a certain order. A higher ability won't be granted before you have received the previous abilities, even if your pet is at the required Level. If you pet is not at the required level to receive the next ability of a particular faerie, the faerie will just fly away and your neopoints will have been wasted. For a chart of faerie abilities and the level your pet must be to receive them go to http://www.pinkpt.com/idb/?searchtype=page&page=faerieabilities . Unfortunately, many abilities are not much use in the Battledome. The most desirable abilities are Burrow (4th Earth Faerie ability, Level 10), Drain Life (7th Dark Faerie ability, Level 21), and Sink (8th Dark Faerie ability, Level 30). Bottled faeries can be purchased at the Battle Magic Shop (on the second central shops map) and in user shops, auctions and Trading Post lots. They also sometimes appear in random events and as prizes at the Tombola. This site cannot begin to explain all you need to know about weapons, but there is a wonderful site that you must bookmark and refer to often to guide you in your choice of weapons. It is the In Depth Battlepedia at http://idb.finalhit.org/ . It has much more detailed information about weapons than the Neopets battlepedia, including ratings by players who have used them. You will also find a lot of other valuable information relating to the Battledome there. A few things to keep in mind relating to weapons:

Even if you don't do the Battledome thing, Battledome related items can play a part in your Neopian life. You will sometimes receive codestones, dubloons, bottled faeries and weapons as random events or prizes. They can be sold, auctioned or traded like any other item. So if you get one of these things, don't think they're no use to you. Check the Shop Wizard for prices and make some neopoints from them. Codestones, dubloons and bottled faeries are always in high demand. If you price them competitively they will sell very quickly. Another way to make neopoints from Battledome items is to stock up on them when the prices are lower between wars. When rumors of a new war begin, the prices of battle items begin to rise. By the time the war arrives some of the prices will have risen very dramatically. This would be long-term investing, but the profits could be considerable. Some good items for this purpose are: Muffins (especially water, stone, and radioactive)Snowballs (especially sticky, icy, exploding and snow mudballs) Clockwork grundos (blue and yellow) Healing items (lucky robots foot, amulet of life) Codestones Dubloons Bottled faeries This guide was created by cybraria and Splash.
