Of Cookies and
Mysteries... |
Wheee… so you wanna hear my story,
huh? Ok, but it's not as long and exciting as some of my friends' stories.
Some of them were noble warriors, some have dramatic, romantic love stories to
tell… some of them were even evil, once, and some of them aren't even really
alive! But me, I'm just a 13-year-old with a lot of cookies and the most
awesomest cousin and friends in the whole world. Well, and a little mystery,
but we'll get to that later. First I wanna tell you how I ended up staying
with my cousin Kauv to begin with.
It all started when I was six years old. I've always loved cookies, and
when I was six, I decided to ask my mom if I could take a cooking class. She
said yes, and we went together to a cooking class… and then another… and more
and more, until we ran out of cooking classes that let six-year-old take them!
My mom thought I would get tired of them eventually, but I never did. Cooking
was the best thing ever! I especially liked to bake, because I could make
cookies! Finally, my mom realized just how much I wanted to learn to cook, and
she sat me down on her bed one day and said she had a big, important question
to ask me. Of course, I was as excited as I could get. What was she going to
ask that could be so important?!
It turned out what she asked was going to change my life forever. She
looked right into my eyes and asked the big question, serious as she could be:
Would I like to go live with someone who could really teach me to cook? My
cousin Kauv, who lived in a big house on the edge of the forest down south of
where we lived, apparently really loved to cook and would be willing to let me
be his "apprentice" if I would like to be. It sounded like a spectacularly fun
adventure to me, so I agreed to the plan, and soon we had my things packed and
were on our way to my cousin's big house in the forest.
I didn't know much about my cousin. In fact, until my mom told me I could
go stay with him, I never knew I had a cousin. My parents didn't want to tell
me much about him, I think. Once I pestered my mom enough, though, she
eventually told me that the reason Kauv, who was only 14 years old at the
time, lived aaall by himself was because his mom, my mom's sister, had died. I
couldn't get much more information out of her, though, so after a while I gave
up and decided to occupy myself with a book of road trip games for the rest of
the drive. It wasn't too long a drive, but it certainly felt that way when I
was only six, so when we pulled into the driveway, I unbuckled myself and
stood up in my seat before the car had even fully parked. I couldn't wait to
meet this cool, mysterious cousin of mine!
We climbed out of the car and started walking towards the huge, fancy
front doors of my cousin's house. It was like a mansion! Kauv explained to me
later that it's actually an old theater… not a movie theater like we have now,
an acting theater, for plays and stuff! It even has a stage inside, but I
couldn't see that from the outside when I walked up to it with my mom for the
first time. Finally, we reached the doors and Mom knocked with a huge handle
thing on one of the doors (it was kind of scary, actually). A couple seconds
later, one of the doors creaked open and I saw my cousin. His fur was yellow,
and his clothes looked like a Halloween costume, with a big, black cape hung
over his shoulders. As soon as he saw us, he got a goofy smile on his face and
motioned us in, saying something like, "Ah, my little freeloader has arrived!"
I didn't know what a freeloader was, but my cousin seemed like a really nice
guy. I couldn't figure out why my parents kept glaring at him. Once we got
inside, Kauv talked to my parents for a little bit while I wandered off to see
if there was anything to play with. My parents went out and got my stuff, and
then they came over to me and gave me lots of hugs and kisses goodbye and told
me that they'd be sure to write letters back and forth with me every week and
that if I ever stopped having fun that I could come home any time I wanted. I
never stopped having fun, though.
Finally, after they left, my cousin came over and held his hand out to me,
"Hey… Petri right?" I nodded, "I'm Kauv. You already knew that, right? I'm
your cousin. Looks like you'll be staying her for a while, eh?" I agreed
again, "Well, then, I suppose I should show you around," he said, and with
that, he showed me all around his amazing theater-house.
He also introduced me to his friend, Morg. Morg could cook, also, and for
the first couple years I stayed with Kauv, she stayed around a lot to help
take care of me. She's never liked to stay in one place, much, but she's a lot
of fun when she is around. Morg is a chubby little bat-dragon who can make
some of the bestest cookies ever. She puts special ingredients in them,
though. They're little bits of dead people's souls. She says it's strange that
I like all her cookies so much, because most living creatures think food with
souls in it tastes kind of funny. I like all cookies, though! Anyways, Morg
taught me how to bake a lot of the things I can bake, now. I'm so glad I had
her around when I was little.
So, that was how my life went for most of my time here. I wrote letters to
my parents, I learned all sorts of spiffy cooking tricks from Kauv and Morg… I
even met a bunch of new friends as Kauv invited more and more "freeloaders" to
stay with us! Then, about a year ago, something really mysterious happened. I
still don't know quite what to think about it, because it's all very
confusing…
You see, my parents wrote me a letter about a year ago saying that they
and my sister (I had a sister, now… she was 3 years old when they wrote that
letter) were going to move and that they wouldn't be able to write to me for a
little while. They said that as soon as they were all moved in, though, they
would send me a letter with their new address and everything in it, so I
waited for them to mail me again. They never mailed me, though. In fact, they
still haven't mailed me! It's all very strange and mysterious. I have no idea
where they might be or what might've happened!
Not very long ago, though, I met a little girl named Zef, and for some
reason she seems really familiar… She's only four years old, and she looks an
awfully lot like me! She doesn't have parents anymore; she says they got
turned into "zombieses." I don't know why, but for some reason I can't help
but think that maybe, I don't know how, but maybe this little girl is actually
my little sister! That would answer everything! Wouldn't that be exciting and
fun? I wonder if I'll ever know for sure, though. Zeffy's so little that she
wouldn't know that she'd had a big brother she's never met before, and for all
I know, my parents are actually off living happily in some house that the
mailman doesn't know exists!

I've
met lots of awesome friends since I came to live with Kauv in his
theater-house! Here, let me tell you about some of my bestest friends~
|
Kauv- Kauv is my big cousin.
He's taken care of me since I was six years old, and he taught me how to
cook and do all sorts of cool stuff. He's like a big brother to me, and
I love him very much! He likes to pretend he's grumpy, but he's really
not. Oh, and he loves tea almost as much as I love cookies! |
|
Morg- Morg was like a big sister or maybe even a mommy to me when
I was little and first came to live with Kauv. She stuck around a lot
for the first year or two I stayed here, just to make sure everything
was ok and to help me learn her special way of cooking. I think it's
really cool that she can cook with bits of dead people's souls! (Even if
I did have a hard time understanding what she was talking about when I
was little...) |
|
Zef- I met Zeffy earlier this year when her and
her big sister CC and their friend Sidhia came to stay with us for a
little while. They went back to the big city after a while, but Zef
still comes to play with me sometimes. She's only four years old, but
she's an awesome friend... and who knows, maybe she really is my
long-lost sister! Wouldn't that be exciting?! |
|
Quaffly-
Quaffly is the closest to my age of all my buddies. He has something
called Down's Syndrome, though, so sometimes he has a hard time
understanding what's going on. He's really nice and awesome, though, so
me and Zef always make sure we help him out so he understands our games!
|
|
Zee- Little Zee is Aqui's little son. He's barely more than a
baby, but it's nice having another kid living in the theater, and I
think he's awfully cute and cuddly. Sometimes he comes to play with me
and Zef and Quaffly, but he gets tired really fast and goes back to
cuddling with his Mommy. It's really cute when he tries to be a big kid
liek us, though, even though he can't even talk! Aqui says he'll never
be able to talk, though. He has something wrong with him that makes it
so he won't grow up quite right... That's ok, though, because I love 'im
anyways! |

Okies, well... I guess it's time for you to go, now, huh? Here, take a cookie
with you on your way out, though! And don't forget to come back and say hi
again, sometime. If you do, I'll be sure to give you some more cookies!

You should visit
some of these other guys, too. They're all really awesome! Here, take some
cookies along to give to them when you see 'em. Tell them all that I said hi!
