Site Spotlight Champion Number 661. |
You are swimming in sparkling aqua ocean waters near a beautiful coral garden off the coast of Mystery Island, surrounded by a multitude of tiny fish in every describable variety and shimmering colours. The water is crystal clear and delightfully warm, when out of the corner of your eye you notice something peculiar... an odd searex is behaving strangely. It's body is dark purple, with even darker purple ragged wings and it's darting from place to place, as if looking for something. You observe the creature as it swims around, looking in the clump of seaweed, under the rock, behind the coral- quite oblivious to you when it accidentally bumps into you! It starts chittering angrily, as if it were telling you off. But then, it stops abruptly, staring at something behind you. You turn and stare in surprise. The clump of seaweed behind you is quavering as if it had a life of its own. Suddenly, a pair of deep purple eyes materialize. Startled, you swim back up to the surface for air. You take in deep breaths and are astonished to see two ears poke out of the water, and then a whole head! You see with relief it is only a peophin mare. She has a dark maroon-purple coat with long ebony black hair, which matches her black forelegs and tail. Her silver head plate is set with a sparkling red ruby.
Did we surprise you?" she asks gently in a charming soft voice. You nod and she continues "Well, lets get you more comfortable, shall we? Follow me." The purple mare races away while you follow much more slowly. The little searex stays with you, chiding you along. Soon you reach a sandbar on which you gratefully wade onto and make yourself comfortable. The purple mare stays in the shallow water and begins to talk.
Well, guest, my name is Alatariel, .... but you may call me Ali" She grins and swishes her tail, spraying a bit of water over you. "This coral reef here is my home, which I share with the Searex you saw earlier. He is a dark faerie...quite unusual in the searex species but he is a good companion nevertheless." She pauses "I wasn't born here, my home was actually Maraqua, where the ruins are now. My parents served the king of Maraqua...I think it was Kelpbeard, or perhaps his father" she mused " Oh well I cannot remember clearly because I was quite young, but I enjoyed life there for a many years.
I was brought up in the palace of Maraqua, among wealth and riches. My parents were both peophins- my mother was Aaliyah, the palace's chief healer and my father was Ronan, a general in the Maraquan guard. Both were respected and well known citizens in Maraqua and doting parents. I was a bit spoilt as a filly and at times living in the court of Maraqua was tedious and monotonous due to the formality and etiquette with which everyone behaved.
Growing up in the palace I didn't have much experience of the actual city, neither did I have many friends because I often found that the other young maraquans were rude, arrogant and tiresome. As a result I grew up as a loner, until I met Kalzari, a Maraquan Uni. She was mischievous and a bit of a street rat, a combination that led us into daily trouble. We became the best of friends and she showed me the city which I had never seen before. We spent our time playing games like hide-the-blacksmith's-hammer, Catch-the-pepito, tag, and various other fun games. In return, I showed her the palace, which had countless empty rooms and corridors to do what we wanted. Something we often did was sneak through a secret passage in the palace gardens that led to the outskirts of the city, past the fortified walls and into the vast ocean wilderness.
Early one morning I was in my quarters and I was reminiscing at the window, when something caught the corner of my eye. It was a huge looming shadow that was crawling over the city. I leaned out the window, trying to see the source of the black monster and I saw what looked like a ship. Ships occasionally passed over the city, but this one felt wrong. I couldn't explain the feeling....it wasn't just a strange wrongness, it felt much stronger than that...like a powerful evil, emanating from the ship like a putrid cloud. Whatever it was, it made my fur stand on end and my heart rise into my throat. As the ship just hovered there, I knew we were in grave danger.
The door was flung open and I spun around. My mother, a beautiful purple mare, was in the doorway. She rushed over and fiercely embraced me. Without a word she hung an intricate silver necklace with a ruby amulet around my neck. Quietly but hurriedly, she spoke. "Ali, you must flee. We are under attack by pirates, led by Captain Scarblade. He has acquired some sort of magic or device which allows him and his crew to breathe underwater!! Normally we would be able to hold our own, but this time we are greatly outnumbered because a third of our troops are not here! I fear that this may be the end of Maraqua if Scarblade should triumph. Right at this moment Ronan is preparing the troops for battle, and I must hurry back to the healer's quarters to prepare. The chances are very high that Maraqua won't hold out so you must leave with Carysta" At that moment the blue flotsam stepped forward and gave a curt bow. Aaliyah gave another fierce hug "Be safe" she murmured, and rushed out of the room. That was the last time I saw my gentle mother.
I stood frozen, because for the first time I had seen something in her eyes which I had never seen before. Fear. And to tell the truth, it scared me witless. I couldn't move, I just stood there staring blankly at the empty doorway until Carysta moved forward an gently took my arm. She whispered quietly "Come, we must leave now." Suddenly it felt like the world was shattering beneath our very feet. There was an enormous explosion and an earth-breaking tremor rocked through the palace like a herd of rampant kau. Ornaments fell off shelves and smashed on the ground, the glass windows cracked. When the tremor died away, Carysta whispered fearfully "They've begun shelling us with their cannons! We must leave now!!" She swam out of the room and took a sharp right. I trailed behind her, feeling stunned by the turn of events. Carysta was just up ahead and took a sharp left, right, then left again. In a daze I followed her out into the gardens, trying to take in every last detail, the peachblossom sea flowers, the gentle swaying seagrass, and the manicured coral hedges. This would probably be the last time I would ever bask in the glow of the morning light and enjoy the natural beauty of Maraqua. This might even be the last time I would ever see my room, the magnificent throne room, talk with the servants and play in the palace......or see my parents....
Carysta led me through the front gates, and the scene that met my eyes was utter chaos. Maraquans were everywhere rushing, panicking, gathering treasured possessions. Carysta guided me through the crowd, when another shattering explosion shook the earth. The ground trembled and I was thrown into a wall. Another cannonball had been shot.
My head suddenly felt like it was on fire, a thousand pinpricks burning the side of my face. I staggered up and looked for Carysta, but she was nowhere to be seen. Maraquans continued to run around me panicking and rushing in every direction like a swarm of lost Veespa. A loud trumpet call blasted through the air and a contingent of the Maraquan guard marched through the street, and at the head was my father! I collected myself and barreled into him.
The black stallion looked down in surprise, but then grinned. "Ali?! What are you doing here? No matter, you must leave Maraqua. Go back to the palace gardens and leave through the secret passage in the gardens and you should be safe." I gasped "How do you know about that?" He smiled "I know a lot of things...now leave! I couldn't live with myself if anything happened to you..." He gave me a bear hug and then a gentle push. I smiled, tears in my eyes, and gave a stout salute "Goodbye father..." I whispered and swam back in the direction of the palace. I struggled through the masses, all swimming in the opposite direction. Finally, I was back in the palace gardens, battered and bruised, but otherwise fine.
Swiftly I darted to the Large ornamental statue of king Aereos that guarded the secret passage, triggered the lock and slipped in. It was almost pitch black, but it didn't worry me as I had been through there hundreds of times with Kalzari. Gradually, the tunnel walls turned into solid rock, and I was beginning to feel claustrophobic when the space around me widened immensely. I spun around, trying to get my bearings. I was in open space, just inside an abyss. Following some bubbles, I swam to the top of the abyss and emerged into light. Creeping forward to the edge of the cliff which overlooked Maraqua, I gasped at the sight which met my eyes.
The huge pirate ship loomed over the city, and pirates were streaming from the ship, attacking the city below while the ship shelled the fortifications of the palace. I watched with growing misery and despair as the Maraquan forces were slowly pushed back into the city and finally defeated. I watched as the scoundrels beat down the walls of Maraqua and destroyed the palace. I watched as Maraqua crumbled.
I woke up. It was night fall and my head felt ready to explode. I uncurled from my spot in between two sheltering rocks and peered over the edge of the cliff. The devastation that met my eyes was so terrible it pained me to look at my former home. All was deadly quiet, like just after a storm. The pirates were gone, but the aftermath of their attack was left behind like an ugly scar on the land. Suddenly it sunk in. I was alone...my parents were probably gone and I had no friends, no family, no one.
I wandered the seas, exploring the reefs and occasionally sheltering with other peophin herds until one day I came across a wounded Searex, Tari. He was an orphan too, but with my healing magic which I inherited from my mother, I healed his wounds. However, when he was healthy, he would not leave no matter what I tried, so I let the little guy follow me around." Her face brightens "Life became much better, and we permanently joined a herd of peophins...it was good to meet and get to know other peophins the same age as me, but after a while I left the herd" she gives a little shrug "I just prefer doing things myself, I am a loner by nature.... but we found this reef and we live here, among the beautiful coral and kelp gardens. Its quite fun" She chuckles "We play a lot of games to amuse ourselves"

Alatariel is a gentle soul who is curious, mischievous and entertained easily, calm and sensitive. Hers is not a suspicious nature and she becomes fond of most that she meets despite being somewhat shy at first. Nonetheless, she is not one to be messed with as she can fend for herself through her abilities and physical power. She has a strong independent streak due to her past, though not to the point of obstinance and enjoys solitude. |

My dominant abilities allow me to heal myself and others. My abilities have developed quite a bit since I first began to make use of them. Currently I can heal almost anything from sicknesses, minor injuries and even more serious ones such as breaks or fractures. However, I cannot heal any injuries or sicknesses that are the results of curse, but I believe one day my skill may develop in that area.
My abilities also branch into empathy. I have the power to sense how others are feeling and project my own feelings to others. In this way I can calm even the most crazed beast. Although it doesn't sound like a very strong ability, I believe it to be a very powerful tool. One last magical attribute I have is not one of my own personal abilities, but rather the result of my mother's enchanted amulet, which allows me to grow wings and soar the skies at will.

The Sleeper This constellation represents the Dark Faerie known only as the Betrayer. She saved the life of King Altador from a ferocious beast and helped to found the great city of Altador, but ultimatley she betrayed them all... It symbolises treachery, betrayal and cunning. |

The Dreamer This constellation represents the Air Faerie known as Psellia. One day Psellia was relaxing on the clouds of Faerieland when a Blumaroo bounced too close to the edge of a cloud and slipped off. The blumaroo could not possibly survive the fall into the ocean miles below, so she leapt off the cloud and grasping the blumaroo. She slowed their fall and swam the both of them to shore. The Dreamer stands for daydreams, determination and gentleness. |

The First to Rise This constellation represents the Light Faerie known as Siyana. While staying at a village, she stumbled across a band of robbers in the woods and and was injured in her encounter. Despite her wound, she managed to get back to the village and alert everyone by glowing in a brilliant light. The First to Rise stands for Resoluteness and beauty. |

The Farmer This constellation represents the kacheek farmer known as Florin. Florin's fellow farmers were experiencing a terrible blight on their crops. However, the clever kacheek had knowledge of herbs and plants and he returned from the woods a few days later with herbs, that once he prepared and distributed to the other farmers, made the blight vanish, thus saving their crops. The Farmer stands for generosity, kindness, innovation and cleverness. |

The Dancer This constellation represents the cybunny dancer known as Sasha. Sasha lived in a small village and the whole village was peparing for a grand festival when an extremely fierce set of winds began to blow. The town elders herded everyone into a large basement below the town hall for safety. For hours, Sasha sang to the children and kept them calm until the storm eased. When the townsfolk stepped out they were devestated to find that everything had been ruined. But then Sasha stepped forward and began to dance...the villagers were shocked, but soon began to smile and join Sasha's dancing. The Dancer stands for Indominatable spirit and hope. |

The Wave This constellation represents the peophin known as Marak. Marak was the leader of a tribe of peaceful peophins at the base of a drop-off just beyond the shore and they coexisted peacefully with a town of fishermen who lived on the coast. Lately food was becoming scarce and the vallagers blamed the Peophins. Marak tried to reach a peace agreement but hostility between the two camps escalated quickly. One day, the villagers tumbled giant rocks from atop the cliff, smashing several homes. Infuriated, the peophins waged battle. However, Marak tired of the hatred and fear and negotiated with the villagers for peace. The Wave stands for Leadership and diplomacy. |

The Gladiator This constellation represents the grarrl known as Torakor, the Champion of one great army. One day, the army came to a small village the general wanted to conquer. The village was surrounded and a challenge was sent for someone to come forth and face the champion. Only a small quivering Shoyru stepped forward, armed with only a garden hoe. The army burst into laughter,except Torakor. He approached the Shoyru, then turned to face his own army. "I will fight for them," Torakor stated. His general shouted, enraged. "Eliminate this traitor, at once!" Mortified by the order to attack one of their own-thousands against one, no less, the warriors lost confidence in the general's leadership. The Gladiator stands for strength, virtue, honour and courage. |

The Collector This constellation represents the skeith known as Gordos, the tax collector. Gordos served a city that severely taxed its citizens although the governor insisted that every Neopoint was being put to good use. Eventually Gordos noticed that the city was falling into ruin, crime was escalating and the citizens were poor. Wondering why a city with so much tax revenue was not flourishing, Gordos went to talk to the governor. Entering the governor's home he found it to be luxurious and lavishly decorated. He confronted the governor who attempted to bribe him, but Gordos would have none of that. He alerted the police, and had the governor removed from office. Gordos then sold the luxury items, returned the profits to the people, and reduced the tax rate to a fifth of what it had been. The Collector stands for honesty, righteousness and incorruptability. |

The Thief This constellation represents the techo known as Kelland. Kelland was born into a life of thievery and never questioned whether what he did was right or wrong. One day, he watched as a tired Elephante collected his weekly wages, and headed down a dark, empty alley. He was promptly robbed by an aisha. When Kelland returned to the thieves' den later that night, he saw the Aisha thief lounging about. Kelland, feeling remorseful, stole the coin pouch back and returned to the elephante's home, placed the pouch on the doorstep, knocked, then leapt onto the roof. From that moment on, the Techo used his skills for good whenever possible. The Thief stands for justice and fairness. |

The Gatherer This constellation represents the acara known as Fauna who could tame any creature. Fauna tended apples at an orchard and whenever she travelled through town, people waved and smiled and petpets followed at her heels. One day, she found the petpets were missing, scared off by a storm the night before. She soon found the creatures cornered by a terrifying beast. Fauna, however, simply knelt, and held out an apple. The beast growled and bared its teeth, but she did not flinch. The beast drew close, its jaws just inches from her face, opened its mouth and gently took the apple from her hand. She smiled and stroked the beast's furry mane. The villagers were shocked as the creature began to lick Fauna's face. The Gatherer stands for nurturing, patience and kindness. |

The Protector This constellation represents the aisha known as Jerdana who serves as Altador's benevolent protectorer. Jerdana also saved king Altador's life by protecting him from harm when they were attacked by werelupes one night. The Protector stands for power and benevolence. |

Tari
This is Tari, my constant companion. He is a dark faerie Searex, and although unusual, he is loving and friendly. I can sense that strong powers lay untapped within him, but the need to use them has not yet arisen.
Alkazar is an ice elemental Eyrie, and the largest in my family by far. He acts as our guardian....however he is quite irritable and bad tempered at the best of times. He can be very fearsome, and I'll warn you now, don't get on his bad side! But I can feel that under all his ferocity, he is really very gentle, but this side of him hasn't surfaced yet.
This one is an adoptable, expressing just how I feel about the BC :3

Just an extra note, try to avoid resizing them as being pixelated means they will warp if you resize...
Instructions for ms paint-
Save the makeable to your computer (Take the png formated one, cause the one with a clear background is useless unless you have a program like photoshop) and open it in Microsoft Paint. Colour it to suit you and taadaa!! Your own custom Lupe!! Save in jpg format otherwise the colours will warp, then you can upload to your own image host and put it on your site or whatever.
Instructions for Other Programs (or new versions of MS PAINT)-
Pretty much the same as above except you can deal with the gif and transparent backgrounds. When you open the makeable up though, you'll notice it will have a black background and you can't colour it...copy the whole picture, open a new document and paste. Close the old version and delete the black background in the new version and its ready for editing ^_^ When finished, if you have a newer version of photoshop, save as a compuserve gif to maintain the transparency. Photoshop 5 has the option to -export- as a gif89a which does the same thing.
Lineart Makeables
Wondering how to colour the non pixel makeables? Well, unfortunately only people who have photoshop can colour these. Its pretty straightforward...open the pic up in photoshop, create a new transparent layer above the base and set the layer type from normal to multiply, then start colouring on that new layer!

1) Do NOT use these in the BC (It's against the BC rules to enter other people's art and it will most likely end up with you being frozen)
2) Do not remove my name from the picture (feel free to move it around though!)
3) You are allowed to remove the white background or outline if you know how, as well as move my name around if it gets in the way of editing.
