Roleplayer's Guide, by Clearwolf2003

Hello, guest, and welcome to the Roleplayer's Guide.

Roleplay; (Verb)
To assume or represent in a drama; act out.
-Courtesy of dictionary.com.

Roleplaying is the main, perhaps even only reason I, along with many others, stay firmly rooted to this silly 'Neopets' website. Why can't we leave? Why are we addicted so to this 'acting out' of things? Because we are born writers, or writers-to-be.
Many are confused with the lingo and ways of Roleplaying, and I fully sympathize with you. I was like that once, when I first discovered the splendor of Roleplaying. If you are in dire need of assistance and help, read on, and explore this tiny site. I hope it will aid you in becoming a 24/7, educated Roleplayer that doesn't need to bear the title of 'literate' to command respect.

Literate; (Noun)

Also known as 'advanced.' A person who has explosive vocabulary, uses correct punctuation, grammar, spelling, and who's posts always correspond to the Roleplay. Literates are people who are the most experienced Roleplayers, or simply the 'best' of them. Their posts make sense, are easy to read, and are typically interesting. Literates are not often found on the Roleplaying Boards.

Semi-Literate; (Noun)

The average Roleplayer. They use mostly correct punctuation, grammar, and spelling. Their posts almost always correspond to the Roleplay, and usually are quite interesting. Although they might have a few mistakes in their introductions and action posts, they are just a few steps away from becoming Literate.

Despie; (Noun)

A person who is desperate for romance and/or attention. They are overbearing and sickly sweet when actually coming upon 'romance' Roleplays. They instantly place themselves in a weak, need-of-instance stance when they Roleplay, and their introductions are brief and dripping with askance for pity.

Illiterate; (Adjective or Noun)

Not to be confused with despie, although they are similar in form. Illiterates are people who clearly cannot Roleplay. Their symptons can include defectiveness in punctuation, grammar and spelling, blindness to other people's posts, and occasionally powerplaying or godmoding. (See below definitions.)

Powerplay; (Verb)

Also known as PP. (PP and GM are terms often found in rules to a Roleplay topic.) Powerplaying is when you take control of the Roleplay, not giving your companions any room to work or defend themselves. Ex.
Jent walked over and hit Cristal, knocking her unconcious.
This is powerplaying. You're not allowing 'Cristal' any time for response and a defensive action so that she does not have to lie on the floor until she regains conciousness.

Godmode; (Verb)

Also known as GM. Godmoding is when you are making your character invincible, incredibly strong, undefeatable. The injuries your opponents 'inflict' are nonexistant, as your character manages to dodge and block every single one of them.

Ooc; (Adjective)

Stands for Out of Character. Used on the Roleplay boards when you are not Roleplaying. Can also be indicated, instead of saying 'Ooc' as asterisks, parenthesis, or any other. (See Examples)

Bic; (Adjective)

Stands for Back in Character. Used on the Roleplay boards when you had said something on Ooc and are returning to the Roleplay on the same post. (See Examples)

Literate;

A dark purple griffon sat placidly in her cage. A black ruff encircled her neck, and a tuft of ebon fur sprouted from the tip of her tail. Dark wings lay across her back, and she drowsily lifted her head to preen them.
A few shouts from the stage did not merit a response. She would be sold today. She'd be a loyal guardian, or work animal. She did not care very much about what happened to her.
The auctioneer stepped on to the stage and waved his arms for silence. "Welcome, ladies and gentleman," he cried, adjusting his unorthadox clothing. "Prepare for the first auction of this evening!"

Advice for the Roleplayers
~

  • When creating a board for Roleplaying, always try to spell everything right, and don't put those little *starrednosesnowflakewhatever* things on them- they are just plain annoying x) 'Medeevil' is spelled 'Medieval,' 'Fantusy' is 'Fantasy.' This will automatically attract more experienced Roleplayers.
  • Downsize your introduction posts to a maximum of four posts. Anymore than that and no one will read the entire thing or pay attention to it. Believe me, I know xP
  • Try to be kind to your fellow Roleplayers. If someone isn't quite as skilled as you are in Roleplaying, don't flat out yell 'You're a despie!!! HAHA!!!' at them. That's just plain rude. Maybe, instead, give them gentle advice or give an excuse and leave the board. Now, wasn't that nicer than just screaming at them?
  • When creating an introduction, always avoid lists. They automatically squish you into the Illiterate-Despie area, and list introductions are typically looked upon with scorn.
  • Avoid chatspeak at all costs. Chatspeak is when you use things like this-
    2=To, too, two
    Lyk=Like
    Etcetera.
