Enough with the introductions, let's get onto what we're all about and what we (readers, writers, and fans of the NT) are trying to accomplish here.
You're on the front page of Neopets. What's the first thing you see? A huge ad, rotating between the NC Mall, Neocash cards, Neovision, the newest game, and the sign up now banner.
Remember when the NT used to be up there? That was long ago, before the layout change. Now the NT gets advertised on the news page once a week, but even then, how many people check the news that often? You may, but I certainly don't, and I know a lot of other people probably don't either.
The question of how to actually access the NT was even asked by an NTWFer a few months ago. Obviously, the NT is slowly becoming less and less known.
So let's face it. We're in the background, overshadowed by Neovision, the NC Mall, customized pets, and winners of other contests, most of which are being displayed on the front page. So what happened to the NT? We are one of the only competitions on the site that don't win prizes regularly, so I think we could do with a bit more publicity. After all, having people enjoy our work is the greatest prize of all. But how will they if many of the members know nothing of the NT?
A couple NTWFers were talking one night, and they realized how the NT just isn't publicized like it used to be. It used to be on the front page every weekend, with a shiny custom pic that was sure to attract a few new readers. Now some people don't even know how to get to its front page.
Then, Craig (reggieman721) came up with the idea of having the Quote of the Week displayed on the front page of Neopets every week, to draw in some more people. Even the smallest spot on the front page would help. And just think about it. If enough of us support this act, we could so make it happen!
Advertising the NT a bit more would be beneficial to so many people. It's a win for new users, so they can learn what the NT is. It's a win for regulars, so they can read and enjoy the NT. It's a win for The Neopets Team, because they'll get more hits and more, higher quality submissions, and it's a win the writers and artists, because their work will be enjoyed by more people!
Neo has lots of new features, new options, and new places to go. But we can't forget the classics, and the Neopian Times is a beacon of tradition and inspiration to all Neopians. Why not stand up, speak out, and make ourselves known? The power of words needs to be spread, so that all can enjoy.

1. Right now, we're asking (politely) for a space on the front page that advertises the NT and changes slightly with each issue, in order to attract new readers who otherwise wouldn't bother. Quote of the Week was suggested because it's just text (no extra work for artists) and because it is usually entertaining and gives a glimpse into what the issue is like. If The Neopets Team is adamant that the changing length of the quote will cause problems, we can always ask for a little banner or button somewhere, or some other link that draws in new readers. We're not protesting or complaining, only asking for a bit of recognition/advertising.
2. We aren't doing this because we want more fanmail. While the alleged decrease in fanmail over the past weeks/months may be due to less people reading the NT, there are other factors as well. In any case, we're not writing just to get fanmail. We're asking for the link to be put on the front page because we want users to be able to see and be interested in the NT, and possibly inspire new writers to submit. It's not really just for us, but for the betterment of the newspaper itself.
3. The fact that the Neopian Times is on the dropdown and posted in the New Features every weekend is definitely a good thing, but it doesn't guarantee that people will read it. There are many people who don't read the news, and plenty of people pay no attention to the drop down links, unless they're the ones they need. (I myself couldn't tell you what is on the drop down for each of the top bar links.)
4. We're keeping a positive attitude. Even if we or Droplet can't influence The Neopets Team into giving us a spot on the front page, we can at least make our cause known. Also, this can be an act of unity in NT writers, showing our dedication to the newspaper and our hopes that it will continue to flourish. :)
What have we, supporters of the NTAA, accomplished so far? Well, a banner was recently put on the news page just below the updates. We do not know if we directly influenced this change, but we are happy about it! We're one step closer to our goal.
How did this idea get started? On the eve of November 23rd, Squiesh (sytra) and Craig (reggieman721) were chatting on the NTWF, and got into the subject of the NT, and how it just isn't publicized like it used to be. Craig came up with the idea of having the Quote of the Week on Neo's front page, and later that night, they proposed the idea to the NTWF with the hopes of making the idea known and hopefully, someday, seeing it actually happen.
