Welcome guest, please make yourself at home.

I take it by your presence that you are as much a fan of Tangrams as I am, in fact, I love them so much - and given the release of the brand new Tangram game - I created this guide both to share my joy of the game, and to celebrate the upcoming Lunar Festival!

Here you will find guides for each of the levels, hints from the Masters of Tangram and ways to help you improve your skills of reasoning and puzzle solving.

Please do not hesitate to neomail me if there is something you believe should be added to this page.

Until we meet again, I wish you the very best for the Lunar Festival.

Do you enjoy gazing at the clouds? Idling away the hours whilst your imagination twists them into fantastic creatures and daydreams? Then Tangram is for you!

In this game of logic, problem solving and boggling puzzles, you are given 7 colored pieces with which to create the shapes in the clouds above.

To move a piece, click with your mouse and drag it into the puzzle area. Pieces may be rotated to fit by either using your left and right arrow keys or the space bar. Be careful to ensure each piece is dropped within the shape boundaries or it wont be recognized as correct.

The up arrow on your keyboard will flip the blue parallelogram, and the down arrow will flip it to its original position.

- ZEN -
You don't earn any neopoints from playing Zen mode, but it helps you become familiar with the shapes when you attempt to play on Hard or Normal. Zen gives you all of the pieces to use at once, so relax and cruise through at your own pace. Remember that you have access to all 7 puzzle pieces at this time and can drag them all into the puzzle area to experiment with.

- NORMAL -
Normal level is timed and only gives you one shape at a time. If you cannot place a shape, it will not give you another one until you place the first. Fear not, the game will never give you a piece you cannot place.

There are 3 levels, each contains 5 randomly mixed puzzles/shapes, the difficulty of the puzzle/shape depends on the level.

- HARD -
This level is truly for the Masters of the game. Pieces fall towards you and you must catch them and place them into the puzzle shape. Be quick, for if you take too long the next pieces will fall even faster!

If you're going to tackle this level, it really helps to know the shapes well, because if you misplace a piece you'll be given a 'miss' point. Keep your eye on the miss-counter, because if you rack up 4 miss points, the game will end.

Back

- 1 -
Placing a piece can be deceptively tricky!
This is because the game doesn't recognize if the correct piece is close to its correct position, it will only accept it if the piece you place is exactly in the right spot, eg; aligned as close to perfectly as possible with the outlines of the shape.
Practice positioning with Zen mode before tackling either Normal or Hard.

- 2 -
Sometimes it is quicker to use the space bar to rotate a piece rather than the arrow keys, try both and work out which works best for you.

- 3 -
Practice on zen mode a few times until you become familiar with the shapes, there are currently 15 in total, but who knows? Maybe TNT may add more in the future.

- 4 -
Remember, things arent always what they seem! Sometimes a shape position is obvious (look for the thin yellowish telltale lines within the shape for hints without using up your hint allowance, note, not everyone can see these, it sometimes depends on the game quality setting). Remember, a correctly placed piece will glow and then fade, or will make a sound confirming it. Placed pieces can't be moved again.

- 5 -
When playing on the Hard level, you must capture a piece with your mouse and drag it to the puzzle before you're allowed to use the space bar / arrow keys to rotate it.

- 6 -
You cannot place any piece in the middle of a shape, even if you know that is its correct position. As with any puzzle, its best to start with the edges/outlines and work your way in.

Back

For each game you are given 7 pieces. Allow me to introduce you;

These are the two largest pieces in the game, sometimes their position is obvious, others times you tell yourself there's no way they can possibly fit in the space left, but they will! Quite often, one or two rotation clicks will make these pieces fit. If in doubt, try to place all other pieces first.

These are the two smallest pieces in the game, and are usually somewhat easy to place, think quick though and remember that every triangle in the game, regardless of size, can fill a sharp corner with its point! These two can make a large variety of shapes when used together, experiment on Zen mode and find out for yourself.

Possibly the easiest shape to use in the game, its place is often very obvious, try to place this one first in timed puzzle and use it as a guide to assist you in placing other less obvious pieces.

Another quite obvious piece, like the square, it often clicks straight into a space made especially for it.

The parallelogram is one of the trickier pieces because it can be flipped as well as rotated. To flip it, press the up arrow on your keyboard then rotate as normal. To switch it back, press the down key.

Back

The shapes you must complete are all roughly in the form of a neopet or petpet associated with Shenkuu. No two games are the same as the levels are randomised from game to game. There are 15 levels in all, each with varying difficulty.

Here I've listed each shape with its relative level of difficulty.

Clicking the name of a shape will take you to its solution!

Copy this to Word and print it out to colour in! You can even colour it on the computer before you print it!
Cut out the pieces when you are done and have fun making your own shapes! If you create something super challenging, trace around its outline and save it to challenge friends!

To make your Tangram Set last, once you have printed your Tangram out, paste it onto a piece of cardboard before cutting it out, or even laminate it! Enjoy!
