Shading Help
|
Hey everyone! I'm going to help you out with your artwork here :) I can't teach you HOW to draw. That's something that takes practice!
So, here's something that will really make your artwork shine. SHADING! And Highlighting too ^_^ It gives the illusion of dimension to your image, a really helpful trick :)
First, we'll start with blending. Some shadows have hard edges, and some have soft edges. Either way, you'll need to know how to blend. Shadows are the darkest point and highlights are the lightest point. In between is where you blend! If you are working with traditional media (pencils etc.) you can use your finger to smudge and get that "soft" look. If you are working digitally, most programs have a smudge tool, a blending tool, or a filter that will allow you to blend. The next thing you need to establish is a light source! Usually that means where the sun is, but it can also be a light bulb, or candle light. Anything that gives off light in the image is a light source. If the sun is to the left of your object, then all the light will be on the left side while all the shadows will be cast on the opposite side.. My friend on Deviant Art, Ellakins, made a wonderful tutorial for those of us who are using Adobe Photoshop! All credit for the tutorial below goes to her :)
