Side Accounts

There comes a time in every Neopian's life when one account becomes too small. We want to have more pets or separate galleries or more petpages (*cough* Al *cough*). And so we embark on a wild and perilous journey toward the land of side accounts.

Tehe, you'll have to pardon me, guest; Al always tells me I like to be dramatic. Anyway, having a side account isn't really all that frightening. There are just a few simple things you need to keep in mind. And since that's what I'm here to tell you, you'll be on your way in no time. Ready? Then let's go!

Now, all the answers and Rules we'll look at have been pulled from pages written by TNT themselves. That means that I'm not making this up, so don't email Al and tell her that I did, got it?

How Many Accounts

You are allowed to have a total of five (5) accounts. One (1) account is your Main account. We'll talk more about that one later. The other four (4) are your Side, or extra, accounts. We'll also talk more about these later. For now, here's a quote from the Neopets' Terms & Conditions about your accounts:
6. You May Only Have Five Accounts Because Your Pets Need Your Attention. It is important that Neopets users are responsible for their pets and play the game in a fair manner. Therefore, do not create more accounts or Neopets than you can maintain. You are allowed a maximum of five (5) accounts.
These accounts should all be on the same e-mail address. That way, TNT can tell that all of the accounts belong to the same person and will know that you're not cheating when you need to send items to yourself.

Main Accounts

Main accounts can do everything on Neopia. They can play games, restock, post on the Boards, do Dailies, enter Neopets contests, participate in plots -- anything and everything you can think of, your main account can do it!

As we said previously, you can only have 1 main account.

Side Accounts

Your side account can still do lots of things, but it cannot earn NPs. If an activity will potentially earn you NPs/items, then it is not allowed on a side account.

As TNT said, Before you do anything, just ask yourself, 'Will I be making a profit?" If the answer is yes, then it's not allowed (Editorial 241).

It would be too confusing to list everything you can't do and then what you can do, Al says, so we're only going to list those things that you CAN do on a side account:
  • Feed your pets at the Soup Kitchen (and other free food that does not actually give you an item; the monthly freebies do give you NPs, so you cannot collect those)

  • Heal your pets at the Healing Springs

  • Visit the Roo Island Carousel and Mystery Island Tiki Tour

  • Have a Gallery

  • Enter the Gallery Spotlight

  • Enter the other Spotlights: Site, Pet, Petpet, NeoHome, and User Lookup (NeoAdventure has a prize, so you can't enter it)

  • Enter the Beauty Contest

  • Have a Stamp Collection, Collectable Card deck, TCG album, and/or NeoHome

  • Join a Guild

  • Create, adopt, transfer, and abandon pets (yes, creating pets earns you NPs, but abandoning costs more, so you can't actually earn NPs by creating then abandoning pets)

  • Zap pets and petpets with the Secret Lab Map and Petpet Lab Map (Yes, you earn some NPs when turning them in, but the map set costs a lot more than that, so TNT said it's okay)

  • Collect non-game/non-Neopian-contest Avatars (i.e., you can get clickables, item Avs, pet Avs, petpet Avs, and Battledome Avs)

  • Go for the Book Award or Gourmet Club trophies

  • Chat on the neoBoards

  • Send items & NPs found in random events to your Main account

Don't Do It

There are some major things that you CANNOT do on a side account.

You cannot vote in the BC from your side accounts. (You can now enter the Beauty Contest from side accounts since the only prize is a Trophy.)

You cannot play any games or have an extra Shop on a side account, either. The Stock Market is a Game; that's why it's located in the Games Room, and it does earn NPs, so you cannot do it on a side account. You can't buy shares on your side accounts.

You also cannot participate in Plots or tournament voting on side accounts since most of those involve prizes.

Moving Items

Now, of course, the next question always is "Since I can't earn NPs on my side accounts, how do I get everything over there?" I'm glad you asked that, because I know the answer!

Earn all NPs/items on your Main account, and then send or trade them to your side accounts. You can set up trades with yourself. You're earning no profit by moving your own NPs/items around. Also, in Trades you can select only your own bid, which makes it a safe and secure way to move stuff around.

As you're playing around on your side account, you may get a "Something Has Happened!" event that gives you NPs or an item. You can transfer the NPs/item back to your main account. It isn't like you're doing anything extra in order to find random events. Those NPs/items belong to you, fair and square, so you can send them to yourself.

If you get a Quest on a side account, you can finish it. Send the item from your main account.

Oh, No!

You log in to your account one morning and check the News. "Wow," you think, "a new game, and it looks fun!" You hurry off to play and then send your score. And then suddenly you realize that you're not on your main account. The horror, the agony, the heart-stopping moment of dread: will I be frozen?

Fear not, dear guest; all is not lost. TNT, in their infinite wisdom, knows that you and I will probably make mistakes (after all, they make them all the time ;), and so they will forgive our momentary lapses and weak memories. As long as you don't make a habit of accidentally playing games or doing dailies on your side accounts, you have nothing to fear.

If you do happen to make that mistake one day, then be sure to not do the same game or daily on your Main account. Remember, once per person per day. Avoiding the same game or daily will also keep any red flags from jumping up at TNT, alerting them that you're cheating. So beat your head against the wall a few times, avoid the same game/daily, and get it right tomorrow.

You also cannot "switch off" between your Main and your side accounts, doing games/dailies on one one day and on the other the next day. Pick a Main account and stick with it. If you waffle between two or more accounts, TNT will pick up on it, and they will freeze you for cheating.

Changing Your Main Account

Perhaps you've been playing for a while now on one account and, for whatever reason, you'd like to make another account your Main account and leave this one as a side account. Is that allowed?

Yes, it is. Once you've made your new account, move over everything that you need to your new main account. Empty your Shop. Sell off your Stocks. Now stop playing games and doing Dailies on the first account, and start doing them on your new Main account. It's that simple!

Guild Account

You may use one of your accounts to create a Guild and to be the "Guild account". The Guild account can have a Shop and can buy/sell items. However, everything on that account should be used for your Guild, not for yourself.

You can keep a Shop on a Guild Account. Remember that requiring donations to the Guild in order to be in the Guild or to advance in Rank is against the Rules.
