Neopets is a fun way to spend some of that extra time throughout the day. As an adult neopian, I find that it keeps my mind alert, and that even neo-"work" is enjoyable. Whether Neopets was intended for this or not, it has become a bit of a mini-world that has many traits of the larger society of which it is a part. Everyone starts out with virtually nothing, and through enjoyable activities and a little bit of hard work, they can build their accounts into something that reflects success in this miniature society. Like the larger society, Neopians are left to find their strengths on their own so that they can become successful on their own terms. This is found in such places as with the "Stockmarket Gurus" who invest large amounts of money in the Neopian stocks and wait for their investments to pay off, and also with the merchant class which has seemingly developed. As with traditional merchants, the merchant class of Neopia consists of those whose money-making methods consist of acquiring and distributing goods and services to the general population.

However, as in the larger society, some Neopians do not have the patience to earn np (neopoints) and items through the virtues of hard work and patience. When people lose patience for traditional methods, they might turn to "scams" in order to inflate their inventory and their bank accounts. Neopia is a fictional world that just happens to have a lot of traits of the real world, but nonetheless, many people do put forth a lot of effort to acquire virtual items. Large bank accounts, impressive battledome weapons, powerful pets, tons of avatars; all of those are often signs of a Neopian's material wealth, and a lot of people work really hard to acquire these things. If I were to lose something worth 50,000 np, sure, I'd be disappointed. It was a virtual item, so it isn't as if selling it would actually help me pay bills or anything, but I had worked to earn it. It is because of the work that goes into earning np that I have decided to make this page. Hopefully, the guidelines that I give here will help people to avoid being scammed and losing hard-earned items.

Okay, if you're reading this because you just got scammed, the first thing to remember is that no loss is too great. Don't give up just because someone decided to be a jerk and rip you off. If you're reading this, you're probably wanting to learn how to avoid being scammed again, or avoid being scammed the first time. This is just a start of an anti-scam tips page. Most of these examples have come from my own experience. I'm very active with my store and my trades, so I have had several experiences that might or might not have been attempted scams. Because I was cautious, I avoided situations that might have potentially caused me to lose up to a million np. I want to be able to help people, but I don't want to be taken advantage of. A lot of you are probably like me in that way. I would appreciate any scam stories and tips at how to avoid scams that anyone can come up with.
