a voice fills the silence.

did you know? it asks softly.

you did know.

you knew your whole life,
but had somehow forgotten.

how could you forget? the voice asked.

you couldn't remember how.

you must have been very busy,
life can be distracting sometimes," the voice went on.

it's overwhelming, being a child.
not knowing who or what you are.

always being told what to do.

making friends and learning how to
behave in the world.
playing alone in your room.

you never did make many friends...

but that's okay.
because after you graduated,
you got to travel to many interesting places.

although, you did have a little trouble
finding a place to belong
.

wondering if what you were
doing was the right thing to do.
and some nights you would cry
alone in your bed.

you stopped talking to your parents.

eventually, you met a special person.
you spent almost all your time together.
the two of you made visions and shared dreams.
this person wanted a cat, you said no.
you moved in together.
you were happy.
things changed so slowly.
conversations twisted into arguments.

you ran away one day.

to distract yourself, you moved and got a new job.
this job was very important to you.
sometimes when you were alone at your desk at night,
you thought about
that once special person.

but only for a moment.

you got a promotion.
things were finally going your way.
one day you got a phone call.
a stranger told you that your father passed away.

you began regretting many things.
you stopped caring about work.

you began playing guitar.
you had never played guitar before.
you never got really good but
it was fun playing causally
on the weekends in your living room
while your friends laughed and sang.

your father played guitar.

when you retired from work
you had a lot of time on your hands.
you and a friend hiked and climbed a mountain.
when you reached the top,
the view and the starry sky made you realize
how wonderful your simple life was.

you wouldn't have it any other way.

as you grew older your back began to hurt.
you stopped hiking and climbing mountains.
trips to the doctor began to seem like
the highlight of your week.

you would play guitar occasionally,
but it hurt your hands now.

you began watching a lot of television.

sometimes the little girl who
lived across the street would wave to you
when you checked your mail.

before you slept sometimes
you wondered if you would wake up in the morning.
you started forgetting things.
days became blurry.
you fed the stray cat.

the cat could feel your loneliness.
you began letting the cat inside at night.
you didn't want to sleep alone.

you wondered what the meaning of this all was.

there were a lot of things
that you didn't do, see, or feel in your life.

one night in winter it snowed.
the first time in a long, long time.
your heart stopped beating that night.
a few old friends came to your funeral.
the little girl across the street
brought you flowers and fed your cat.

the snow covered your grave.

"i'm sorry you forgot about the most important thing," the voice said.
you aren't the only one who forgot.
but now you have returned. you have reached the

You look down. You see glowing lines that branch off in many different directions like veins. You can't tell how far below they actually are but the sight gives you an intense feeling of falling. You decide to not look down anymore. You were unsure how, but you could clearly see everything that was in front of you as well as everything behind you without the need to turn your head. Patterns and colorful blotches appear and then disappear in a timely reoccurring rhythm. Everything seems like it is pulsating, beating, somehow alive. You feel water lap at your feet. You feel seasick.

Time feels fluid and wet all around you. You do not remember arriving. You wonder how long you have been here. When did you even start seeing lights above you and glowing lines beneath you? Was there ever even a beginning to all of this? Was there ever a time when you weren't seeing and feeling this? The more you think about it, the harder it becomes to picture.

You realize that you are suspended, floating in between something and nothing. You are walking but you have no legs. You can still feel liquid on your nonexistent feet. You wave your nonexistent hand gently and touch something billions of galaxies away. It feels warm. You reach down below and drag stars along with you. You submerge your nonexistent hand into the liquid below. And something, from somewhere, reaches out and pulls your nonexistent body through.

NAME: Scathe
OCCUPATION: god
GENDER: male
APPEARANCE: angelic halo, sharp devil horns, dark eyes that negate all light, and a tail that contains billions of complex intricate galaxies.
FORM: Scathe typically resides in his cat-like form, but he does appear in an infinite number of other physical and non-physical forms. He is least comfortable in his human form, but let's be honest, is anyone ever comfortable in their human form?
BACKGROUND: Scathe gathers human experiences and adds them to his collective pool of consciousness. Every human he creates acts like his window into the physical world of his creations. They are all individually, extensions of his own being. And upon death they reach the transcendental object at the end of time which pulls them like a magnet through life and lulls them back to eternal sleep.
