Welcome Visitor

My name is Solace and I will be your Tour Guide. I know everything there is to know about our facility, and of course, zomutts. My companion today is, Siobhan. Please don't get in her way. She's been known to bite.

As a visitor, you will be able to visit only parts of our facility. I can assure you, it's for your own safety.

The Visitor Tour includes a trip to the Hall of Zomutt Legends Museum, a brief educational lecture on finding and caring for zomutts, and a trip through the Gift and Souvenir Shop.

Full tours of the Sanatorium are reserved for patients only. However, by the end of this tour, you may be eligible for a visit to Dr. Higginbottom.

Yes, I'd like to take the Visitor's Tour.

No, I'm eligible for the doctor now.

Hall of Zomutt Legends

Here we enter the Hall of Zomutt Legends – our museum of history, lore, mythology, and zomutt sightings.

Please do not touch any of the displays.

The zomutt was first seen in Neopia on October 8, 2003.
Its natural, unpainted, color is grey.

The description of the zomutt is:
He followed you home from those spooky woods didn't he?.

The zomutt is classified as a Spooky Petpet.
It cannot be bought at Spooky Petpets
The URL of the zomutt is gothpup, which is very similar to the droolik'sgothpuppy URL.

The zomutt's name comes from the combination of the words zombie and mutt.
Zombie Mutt = Zomutt

The New Features page marked this auspicious day with this blasé notice:
TEST YOUR STRENGTH is the newest addition to the Deserted Fairground - see, not so deserted after all is it?? Smash the mallet down as hard as you can, and see if you win a prize. We can never do better than useless ourselves... we think it's rigged!

The only way to obtain a zomutt (without purchasing one from a user) is to win it from Test Your Strength.

August 26, 2004 marked a special day for Zomutt Fans. Four zomutt-themed (and quite necessary) Petpet supplies were released.

Zomutt Food Bowl This bowl opens when your Petpet goes near it and closes again afterwards to keep the food fresh.

In order to receive this avatar, simply visit the lookup of a pet with a Zomutt as a petpet.
Here are a few to visit: Solace, Scatahara, Morwynna

September 1, 2008 saw the release of a wearable item called the Haunted Woods Petpet Garland. This garland features different spooky petpets including a zomutt. This garland was released as virtual code prize from the Burger King toy promotion held at the same time. You had to have a US code in order to have a chance for this prize

One of the toys during the BK promotion was the Haunted Woods themed Meerca. Found in the box with the meerca was a sticker sheet featuring several Haunted Woods petpets. The zomutt was one of the stickers featured in this promotion.

October 7, 2009 saw the release of this mischievous little zomutt. He was one of the new shopkeepers released that day. While certainly adorable, I'm not sure just how well he'll do his job of Shop Keeper. He seems to enjoy eating the product more than he likes selling it.

March 24, 2012 – Zomutt fans had to wait quite a long time for a new zomutt color, but were rewarded wonderfully on this day. Zomutts could be painted a brand new color!
Darigan
The Darigan Zomutt kept the same description as the original zomutt.

October 12, 2012 was the first day of a Halloween Edition of Edolie's Phantastic Finds (a NC Mall event). In the hidden picture, there's a tiny little zomutt hiding under the piano!

October 14, 2012 was a very important day to zomutt enthusiasts. The NC Mall released a beautiful Baby Zomutt Costume Pack (can only be worn by baby neopets).

Petpet Cemetery Background Sometimes being undead is better!

TNT released a Home Page Marquee featuring the Baby Zommut Costume Pack on October 17, 2012.

A long awaited zomutt event took place in Neopia on October 20, 2012. Zomutt fans were finally given a Zomutt Smilie to use on the boards. All you have to do is type: *zomutt* to see this wonderful little smilie pop up!

Zomutts & the Tale of Woe

Now that you know a bit more about zomutt history, let us now find out how the Zomutt featured in the Tale of Woe plot (October 3, 2006).

The Zomutt featured in the Tale of Woe once belonged to the janitor, Miles. Miles was tragically no more when the inmates of Meepit Oaks Sanatorium escaped. However, his pet Zomutt survived to guard the Sanatorium's secrets.

During the search through Sophie's Potions Cabinet, you were able to find Potion #26 – Glowing Zomutt Mucus

Chapter 13 is where we first encountered the zomutt, hiding in a little abandoned building called Meepit Oaks Sanatorium for the Psychologically Fragile.

Step 5 of your plot tasks during this chapter required you to Find the Zomutt. Pick up the Journal on the floor and read it.

Once you read the Journal, you needed to proceed to the Backyard to dig up a bone.

Once you had your bone, you took it back inside to the zomutt.

Without proper persuasion, the zomutt would not let you pass behind it.

While the Zomutt was distracted, you could head through the gate behind him..

Zomutts Around Neopia

Caption Contest #708 featured a zomutt and a pitiful tyrannian shoyru.

Some of the winning captions were:
Zomutt: What's wrong? You hated all these games...
Shoyru: No, it's not that... it's just that your face is SO scary!

Shoyru: I only had one level left! *groan*

Zomutt: It's not my fault they looked like chew toys!

The zomutt Jack of Spades playing card can be found in a number of card games around Neopia including Sakhmet Solitaire, Tyranu Evavu, Cheat, and Go! Go! Go!

This friendly little zomutt has a special place in Neopian history as the only zomutt AIM icon currently available.

What a good boy this fellow is! He's the only zomutt themed MSN icon available so you better hurry and get yours before he decides being good is no fun! If you look carefully, you'll notice that the main image for this icon is taken from the Zomutt (tcg).

Twice, the Petpet Spotlight has featured Zomutts:

During Week 122 of the Petpet Spotlight, Klawz the zomutt got to show off his fifteen minutes of fame.

A petpet, that looked half dead, had its' teeth sunk into his right foot. The Neopet quickly jumped up and pulled the petpet off his foot. He looked at the petpet, angry. He noticed it was a Zomutt he was holding up. "Watch who you're biting, Zomutt!
The Zomutt's eyes glowed purple, then it whimpered. A small note was sticking out of its' collar and that caught the Buzz's attention. "Now what do we have here?" He put the Zomutt down and read the note.

During Week 412 of the Petpet Spotlight, a naughty little zomutt pup named Mutt found herself in quite a tangle.

Deep within the Haunted Woods, a Zomutt mother nudged her pups before she set off on a hunting expedition. Not long after she left, one of the pups clumsily stumbled away in another direction, following the mesmerising glow of a Lightmite's tail. She bounded through the forest; the constant noise made the Petpetpet too startled for it to land...Until...

YIP!" The pup squealed; she had caught herself in a bramble patch. Thorns pricked at her pelt and nose. The pain made her writhe with discomfort and yelp for help. Each twitch further ensnared the Petpet; however, she paused momentarily to watch her playmate buzz off. The yellow light was soon lost in the tangle of tree branches and leaves.

After hours of frantic struggle, the pup had lost her hope. She whined softly with fear and hunger and wished that her mother were there to rescue her.

Week 118 of the Random Contest saw lots of interesting pipe cleaner petpets. One user even made a zomutt out of pipe cleaners! The rules of the contest sated that: This new contest should be lots of fun... We would like you to make Petpets out of pipe cleaners! Please try to make these as realistic as possible, possibly even using multiple coloured pipe cleaners. We are going to judge your creations on detail, humour, creativity, and it's resemblance to the actual Petpet.
Twiterpert's zomutt took second place!

For zomutt fanatics, even Key Quest has shown a little zomutt love. Occasionally you may be asked to play a mini-game called Daring Dig. This great little game will have you jumping for joy (and digging for gems) when you see these adorable zomutts digging for all they're worth!

For Petpet Appreciation Day 2012, this image of a zomutt appeared in the Art Gallery!

Zomutts in the Neopian Times

Zomutts have been featured in the Neopian Times on three occasions.

The zomutt. The one creature in Neopia that's cutely disgusting, and vice versa. It's also one of the most misunderstood petpets. Found in Issue 258 of the Neopian Times is Ahnnilator's Guide to the Care & Feeding of a Zomutt.

Sango has written a fantastically fun series which features another zomutt. In The Thing, Part One, Xana's zomutt L is lost in Meridell. To learn how Sango and Xana cope with this loss (and Xana's Twisted Roses album) check out the series!

I bet you'd like to know what we're doing with all these little spooks, wouldn't you? Well, that's a long story. Have you got time to hear it? Found in Issue 548 of the Neopian Times is The Rusty Chain – A Home for Abandoned Spooky Pups, the story of how The Rusty Chain shelter for abandoned spooky pups (including zomutts, drooliks, and drugals) came into being..

It's time to see the doctor.

How to Find Zomutts

Finding zomutts is not easy. They are not given out by random events, nor can you purchase one at Spooky Petpets. There are only 4 ways to obtain a zomutt.

The first way to acquire a zomutt is to win one from Test Your Strength. This is not an easy task! In order to win a zomutt, you must actually score 100 out of 100! Yep – the zomutt is the ultimate prize! oh you thought that winning the jackpot was the ultimate prize? You silly thing! Whoever heard of Neopoints being better than zomutts?

I wish I had advice for how to win the zomutt, but unfortunately I can only tell you where to find it. I can however wish you luck on winning!

The second way to acquire a zomutt is to purchase one from a User's Shop. Generally the price of a zomutt keeps them out of shops and in the Trading Post instead, but occasionally you can find them in someone's shop.

The third way to acquire a zomutt is to purchase one from the Trading Post. This is probably your best bet in getting a zomutt. Prices range from 100k up to around 200k, depending on how many are "on the market" and how quickly the seller wants to sell.

The fourth and final way to get a zomutt is to have a very good friend and/or kind person gift you a zomutt. This is by far the best way to receive a zomutt. Because, let's face it – they make the best presents!

Do NOT beg people to gift you a zomutt. It's wrong, it's stupid, and no one's going to just give you one because you begged. Just don't do it!

I'd like to learn how to care for zomutts.

Where's the doctor?

Caring for Zomutts

Caring for zomutts is not difficult. But it does take a little special know how.

Caring for Zomutts 101

First things first, zomutts like graveyards, dark spooky places, hidden corners, and lots and lots of bones.

This means that you must provide a place for your zomutt to hide. A cardboard box, a doghouse, under a table, or a cabinet all work very well. Zomutts can be rather shy creatures, especially around company.

Zomutts enjoy digging. They enjoy burying things in the ground and digging them back up again. You must provide a place for your zomutt to dig. A small patch of ground will do wonderfully. You can make it perfect by digging "graves". Put up a few tombstones and churn up the earth around them. Your zomutt will be entertained for hours!

Zomutts do not drink blood or any other gross substance. I don't know where you heard that! Zomutts drink only water. They need and require fresh water daily. In a clean bowl!

Feeding your zomutt is not difficult. They love to gnaw on bones, so make sure you have plenty around. As for actual food, you can purchase any wet or dry petpet food at your local Petpet Supplies store. For a treat, they really love Deviled Steak. And yes, they do prefer it raw. Zomutts do not eat chocolate. Please don't try to feed it to them.

Since your new zomutt will be doing a lot of digging, please be sure to give them regular baths. Zomutts are not supposed to smell like the graveyards they play in. Just basic petpet shampoo will do the trick. Their coats are not prone to tangles and mats, but do give them a good loving brushing every once in a while.

Keep your zomutts' nails trimmed. While digging will help to dull the sharp edges, they occasionally will get snagged on stones and other things while digging. Please keep the nails trimmed so your zomutt doesn't get hurt!

While zomutts can be a little spooky and creepy to some folks, we certainly know better. And as you get to know your zomutt, you will learn as well. Zomutts need, want, and enjoy lots of hugs and snuggling. They love to lay in your lap and just be petted.

Zomutts can and will get along with other types of petpets. They do prefer their own kind, though. If another zomutt is not around to play with, they do best with other spooky petpets. Drugals and drooliks work best. A zomutt and a droolik will play and play, even though the droolik probably won't move much.

Teach your zomutt to go outside to do its "business". Zomutts do not and will not lie in their own filth. Be responsible and clean up after them.

Zomutts do not enjoy being chained. Do you? I didn't think so. Please don't do it to these wonderful little petpets either. It makes them very sad and they have a tendency to chew themselves when upset.

Zomutts do occasionally get sick. It's fairly difficult to find a vet who will even agree to see a zomutt, let alone treat it. If your zomutt does become ill, please be sure to take it to see Nip at The Rusty Chain. She is an expert in zomutt care.

Now that doesn't sound too hard, does it? You now know how to properly care for your new zomutt. Please be sure to take care of the little guy. Any mistreatment of your zomutt will be handled with sever consequences.

I don't feel so well.

As you can see, we have quite a variety of residents.

The doctor is ready to see you now.

On to the doctor!

Take me to the Main Hall

Dr. Higginbottom's Office

Hello there! I'm Dr. W.C. Higginbottom. I understand you have a bit of a problem with zomutts.

There are a variety of ailments that are zomutt-induced. They range from very minor to rather extreme. Treatment options are just as varied as the ailments. Depending on what you suffer from will depend greatly on how you're treated here at the Sanatorium.

Let's see if we can pinpoint your diagnosis.

Please choose from the following symptoms:

I suffer from a fear of zomutts.

I love these little guys!

I'm officially obsessed.

Take me to the Main Hall

Zomuttaphobia – the fear of zomutts

The fear of zomutts can be a mild condition. However, it can be quite major!

Symptoms may include (but are certainly not limited to):

Zomuttitus – the love of and about zomutts

The love of zomutts can be a mild condition. However, there is always the chance that this love of zomutts and all things zomutt can turn into a full blown case of obsession!

It is possible to have only a "touch" of this condition. Treatment will likely be effective if caught early.

Symptoms may include (but are certainly not limited to):

Zomuttomania – the complete and total emersion into and obsession with zomutts.

The obsession of zomutts is a serious condition. It is quite difficult to cure, nearly impossible. If you feel that you suffer from this condition, it's a very good thing you've found your way to help. Treatment has been proven to only be effective if caught early.

Symptoms may include (but are certainly not limited to):

Treating Zomuttophobia

Depending upon the severity of your case, there are a few treatment options available.

Option 1: Carry around a zomutt plushie for two weeks.

The purpose of this exercise is to get you used to the size, shape, and appearance of a zomutt. This harmless plushie should help you begin to acclimate yourself to zomutts.

Option 2: Educational Courses

Educational courses on how to care for zomutts, their history, etc. should help dispel your fears.

Option 3: Volunteer at The Rusty Chain.

Volunteering at The Rusty Chain, will put you in close proximity with zomutts without having you get one yourself. Nip occasionally will allow fostering if you feel that you're ready to take on a zomutt at your own home.

Option 4: Get a zomutt.

Getting your own zomutt will force you to face your fears. Picking out your own and caring for it by yourself will give you a push in the right direction towards loving zomutts.

Option 5: Residency at Zomutt Hills Sanatorium.

If the above treatments fail, there is always intense treatment available here at the Sanatorium. Residency terms will depend on how severe your condition is, how well prior treatments worked or failed, and whether or not you make any progress.

Our goal for treating your Zomuttophobia is to give you the ability to be around zomutts without fear. A deeply rooted fear can turn to hate and no one wants you to go around hating zomutts!

Just a bit of paperwork …

Treating Zomuttitus

Depending upon the severity of your case, there are a few treatment options available.

Option 1: Medications.

There are a variety of medications that may help treat you. These include using Magic Goop, Herbal Teas, Injections and Creams, as well as a variety of Elixirs.

Option 2: Slow and increasing withdrawal from zomutts and zomutt things.

Weaning yourself from your love of zomutts just may help bring a dangerously severe case down to a more manageable level..

Option 3: Short term residency at Zomutt Hills Sanatorium.

A short term stay here will help you manage your daily zomutt intake levels. We can control how much or how little you will be exposed to zomutts in order to treat your specific needs..

Our goal for treating your Zomuttitus is to give you the ability to be around zomutts without having it intensify into a full blown case of Zomuttomania!

Just a bit of paperwork …

Take me to the Main Hall

Treating Zomuttomania

Depending upon the severity of your case, there are a few treatment options available.

Option 1: Long term residency at Zomutt Hills Sanatorium.

There isn't a whole lot we can do about Zomuttomania. If you've got it, you're essentially stuck with it. Long term care at our facility is our only treatment option.

As of right now, there is currently no cure for Zomuttomania.

We're always searching for a cure for Zomuttomania. Our Long Term Care Residents are undergoing experimental procedures to find a cure.

Just a bit of paperwork …
