Welcome to my Scorchy Slots Guide. If you are so inclined, advertising my shop in your own shop/guild/lookup/pet pages/whatever would be a great way to show support for my work:

Scorchy Slots, a Statistical Study

If desired, you can get a copy of the data used for this analysis at http://davebrush.mailup.net/Scorchy Slots Statistics.xlr. Save to your computer before you try to open it.

Right off the bat, I want to welcome you to my Scorchy Slots guide. I realize that much of the work I'm done may be confusing to a lot of people, and the formulas may seem intimidating. I will do my best to simplify things, but if you are at all confused, please neomail me, #ownerlookup, with any questions you may have.

Now that I have that out of the way, the first thing I want to tell you is that the Scorchy Slots, as it stands here and now, WILL make you money. . . if you actually pay attention and play them. This guide is not intended for those who use quick play strategies, as you cannot claim any non-item payouts when you play that way, cannot use any holds, and only get BAD results from the feature bar. If you do play the game, though, the average payout per spin, barring any holds EVER or feature bar hits is around 8.25 neopoints.

Of course, there are 3 variables which cannot be quantified exactly which factor in to this. First off, the Jackpot is ever-changing, and is thus the most problematic number to deal with. In order to come up with meaningful numbers, I have assumed that the Jackpot is a static 50,000 np at all times. Don't worry about this skewing the above number, though, even if one sets the jackpot to 0, the average payout is still 6.12/spin. The other two variables are the market values for faeries and map pieces. I have approximated these two numbers as 4,400 np and 25,000 np (Note: This was recently changed from 15,000 after speaking to a map dealer about the subject on 11/16/05). If these numbers are too off, please neomail me, as I may not have factored in changes in the market in a while, and these two numbers DO play a big part in how much the slots pay. Together, the items contribute over 5.70 neopoints/spin to the number above (which also goes to show that using the aforementioned quick play method may actually be able to make money . . . if they don't get their stuff stolen, and don't get too many negative feature bar hits).

Now, like I said, this is without taking into account two major boosts in the game, holds and the feature bar. The analysis I have performed does take into account holds, but I have chosen to disregard the feature bar for now. Other guides I have seen say that the feature bar, on average, increases your winnings, and I would tend to agree from experience. I may do further analysis into this later.

On this page, I will keep my holds analysis fairly simple. I am going to put up the actual file I used to make this analysis soon, however, for those who may wish to get more exact information, check my work, or undergo further analyses themselves.

According to what I have done, the following are good situations to hold, as they increase the average payout of the slots. They are listed in order from best payout odds to least. Also, understand that when I say "staggered", it means one center reel and one end reel are that particular item, while a "center" position is either reel 2 or 3, and an "end" position is either reel 1 or 4, and a "Set" is something which already yields a payout.

The occasions when it is good to hold and the average payout for holding are as follows:

Note: Due to the change in value assigned to map pieces (Old=15,000, New=25,000), most of the map piece holds have gone up in the rankings.

1: If you hit the jackpot and get a set of holds, the LAST thing you want to do is immediately click all 4 holds and spin again. When you hit the jackpot, the pot gets reset down to almost nothing, and starts its slow rise again. Instead, leave the window open, but put it off to the side. Open a new window, and go play other games, visit other sites, watch a movie, whatever. Occasionally come back to the scorchy slots page IN THAT NEW WINDOW to check on the jackpot. If it is at a good value, then you can go back to the first window and claim another jackpot, guranteed. The Jackpot can occasionally hit 250,000 np or more, but you have to have the patience to wait for this, otherwise a payout of 50,000-100,000 may be desirable.

Wondering where I get my numbers from? Well, I took some time to map out the reels, and found that there are 22 spots, including 5 Cherries, 3 Melons, 3 Strawberries, 2 Bells, 2 Peaches, 2 Apples, 2 Grapes, and 1 each of Faerie, Map Piece, and Money Bag. The reel is laid out as follows:
