:The Rock Pool along the inlayed shores of Mystery Island lay calm and still in the afternoon. Burried along the kelp beds lay countless koi eggs, each nestled deeply in its safty. Rivers here trickle in and out to the greater sea beyound, feeding the land with a harvest of colorful creatures:

:Suddenly the calm waters are overthrown by a swift storm. The angry ocean washs the egg and its siblings from their beds in a frightful roar of wave and froth. Sadly, nature's wrath takes with it many of the koi eggs. Only a few make it to calmer waters where they continue to wait for the day of their birth to arrive:

:One such pulls himself from his shell, blinking large curious eyes. He is not of usual colors, belly and scales marked by tints of blues and whites. He does not know that he is alone or that he is far from home. The only thing that concerns the little one is breakfast:

:As time passes, it finds the homeless koi wandering the river bed, back, forth, a great leap that startles those who come to drink at the water's edge. He is lonely in the riverbed, limited in a small world of water and sand. Often, his leaps carry him high into the air just to glimpse another world. And a strange world it is, one he hungers for:

:With luck and perhaps a little trickery, the koi gains the power of books and reading. His knowledge grows beyound the river, learning of the wider oceans with their great flesh-eaters from his soggy pages. The land dwellers become known as well, stranger creatures of lungs and dry skin. He even meets one after half scaring her with one of his great jumps:

:She offers him what he's always dreamed of, accepting the mode of transfertation without question, even if it looks funny. So the girl takes home her new neopet, the koi thrilled to see new lands from the insides of his watery bowl. The lost koi finds a place he can finally call home:
